New development in the Gülistan Doku murder investigation: DNA and tissue samples to be taken from the family
In the investigation into the murder of Gülistan Doku, the Erzurum Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has requested DNA and tissue samples from the Doku family. The family will travel to Diyarbakır to provide the samples.
The murder investigation into Gülistan Doku, who went missing in Tunceli in January 2020 and was later determined to have been murdered, continues. The Erzurum Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has requested that the Doku family provide DNA and tissue samples. This step has been recorded as a significant development in shedding light on the murder.
REQUEST FOR DNA AND TISSUE SAMPLES FROM THE DOKU FAMILY
The Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is continuing the investigation into the murder of Gülistan Doku. Within the framework of the investigation, it had been decided that Gülistan Doku's mother, Bedriye Doku, and father, Halit Doku, would have their statements taken by the Erzurum Chief Public Prosecutor's Office in their capacity as victims. However, the statement-taking process has been replaced by the collection of DNA and tissue samples.
SAMPLES TO BE TAKEN IN DIYARBAKIR
According to the report in Habertürk, the Doku family will travel to Diyarbakır to provide the requested samples to the Diyarbakır Provincial Police Department's Crime Scene Investigation Bureau. Subsequently, the family members will proceed to the Diyarbakır Forensic Medicine Institute for the collection of tissue and DNA samples.
FORMER GOVERNOR SONEL AND 11 OTHERS ARRESTED
In the murder investigation, 12 people, including the then-Tunceli Governor Tuncay Sonel, were arrested. Allegations that the former governor and other detained individuals are linked to Doku's disappearance and murder are at the center of the investigation.
The reason the judicial process regarding former Governor Tuncay Sonel is being conducted by the Erzurum Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is based on the Criminal Procedure Code. In accordance with the provision in Article 161 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which states that "the authority to conduct investigations and prosecutions regarding the personal crimes of governors and district governors belongs to the provincial chief public prosecutor's office and the high criminal court of the place where the regional court of justice to which the place of duty of the person concerned is affiliated is located," the investigation into Sonel continues in Erzurum.
