New development in the murder of university student and delivery rider Ata Emre Akman
It has been decided to merge the cases against 17-year-old E.Ö., who murdered university student Ata Emre Akman by stabbing him multiple times, and his father, who is alleged to have incited him.
The incident occurred on May 11 on Emir Street in the Karaoğlan neighborhood of the Karesi district.
Ata Emre Akman, a student at the Balıkesir University Faculty of Tourism, Department of Tourism Guidance, who worked as a delivery rider for a chain restaurant, was intercepted by E.Ö. (17) while returning from a delivery address on his motorcycle.
E.Ö. stabbed Akman multiple times in various parts of his body.
While Akman lay in a pool of blood, E.Ö. fled the scene. Following reports from bystanders, police and medical teams were dispatched to the area. Upon examination by medical personnel, it was determined that Akman had lost his life.
TRANSFERRED TO THE MORGUE
Following the investigation by police and the prosecutor at the scene, Akman's body was transferred to the morgue of Balıkesir Atatürk City Hospital.
Launching an investigation into the incident, the police examined security camera footage from the surrounding area. E.Ö., whose identity was determined from the footage, was apprehended in an operation conducted at the house where he lived with his family.
E.Ö. and his father, Orhan Ö., who was alleged to have helped him hide, were taken into custody. E.Ö., who had 6 separate criminal records for 'intentional injury' and 'threat,' and his father were referred to the courthouse on the same day following police procedures.
While E.Ö. was arrested by the court, his father, who was initially released, was taken into custody again and subsequently arrested.
FILES TO BE MERGED
Following the investigation, separate indictments were prepared for E.Ö. and his father, Orhan Ö.
The indictment against E.Ö. included the provision: 'For individuals who have completed the age of 15 but have not completed the age of 18 at the time of the act, if the crime requires an aggravated life sentence, a prison sentence of 14 to 20 years shall be imposed; if it requires a life sentence, a prison sentence of 9 to 12 years shall be imposed.'
A prison sentence of 18 to 24 years was requested for E.Ö. for the crime of 'murder with monstrous feeling or by inflicting torture.'
For his father, Orhan Ö., an aggravated life sentence was requested for the crime of 'inciting murder with monstrous feeling or by inflicting torture through premeditation.'
It has been learned that the Balıkesir High Criminal Court has decided to merge the two files.
