North Korea completely severs land and rail links with South Korea

The long-standing tension between North and South Korea occasionally results in political clashes between the two countries. North Korea has announced that it has completely severed its land and rail connections with South Korea.

It was stated that this step was an inevitable and legitimate measure taken due to the "enemy's political and military provocations" and the "difficult security environment," and that measures to permanently fortify the border would continue.

North Korea has cut the transport lines providing connection to South Korea. According to reports in the official North Korean press, units of the Korean People's Army (KPA) blew up a 60-meter section of the roads and railways leading to South Korea. It was noted that this step was an inevitable and legitimate measure taken due to the "enemy's political and military provocations" and the "difficult security environment." It was emphasized that the explosions carried out had no negative impact on the environment or the ecological setting. While it was stated that the transport lines connecting North Korea to South Korea were completely severed as a result of the explosions, it was expressed that measures to permanently fortify the border would continue.

MOVE FROM NORTH KOREA

The Pyongyang administration, which announced last week that it was working on a major "fortification project" that would completely separate North Korean territory from South Korean territory, had blown up parts of the roads providing connection between the two countries. In a statement made by the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), it was stated, "The North Korean army carried out explosions aimed at cutting the connection on the Gyeongui and Donghae roads and is conducting additional activities in the region using heavy equipment." While it was stated that the South Korean army was not harmed by the explosions, it was noted that warning shots were fired south of the military demarcation line in response.

US CALLS ON NORTH KOREA FOR DIPLOMACY

US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller, in a statement, criticized North Korea for taking steps that increase tension in the region, saying, "We call on North Korea to reduce tensions, cease any actions that would increase the risk of conflict, and return to dialogue and diplomacy."
