NSC meeting has concluded

The third National Security Council (NSC) meeting of the year, held at Beştepe under the chairmanship of Erdoğan, has concluded.

The NSC meeting lasted approximately 3 hours and 40 minutes.

In a statement issued by the Presidential Communications Directorate following the meeting regarding the topics discussed, the following expressions were used:

The council was briefed on the operations carried out with determination, resolve, and success both domestically and abroad against all kinds of threats and dangers directed at our national unity, solidarity, and survival, primarily the PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG, FETÖ, and DAESH terrorist organizations.

It was emphasized that our coordination and cooperation with our neighbor Iraq will be carried to more advanced stages with the expansion of the legal framework between our countries, and it was stated that concrete progress to be recorded in the field of security will strengthen our joint efforts for the development of our region.

It was emphasized that the PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG, which has turned the lands it usurped in Iraq and Syria into a nest of terrorism, and the support provided to it will be eliminated along with all its elements in our region, and that no fait accompli will be allowed against our national security and the territorial integrity of our neighbors.

It was stated that the practices aimed at suppressing the voices rising all over the world for Israel to end the crimes against humanity it commits while continuing its massacres in Gaza by ignoring its responsibilities arising from international law, once again reveal the insincerity of circles that claim to defend the rule of law, democracy, and freedom of expression. In contrast, it was expressed that it is of critical importance to increase the number of countries that recognize the State of Palestine by taking the right side of history, and to increase efforts to hold those responsible for the massacre accountable before justice.

Recent developments regarding the war, which causes the humanitarian situation in Ukraine to deteriorate day by day, were discussed, and opportunities for establishing a just and lasting peace as soon as possible were evaluated; the importance of continuing efforts to strengthen navigation safety in the Black Sea, together with littoral countries, was emphasized.

Our hope that the positive developments recorded in the negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia will result in an agreement that will ensure peace, and our support for all well-intentioned efforts aimed at establishing lasting peace were reaffirmed.

Attention was drawn to the fact that the progress recorded in the field of artificial intelligence offers great opportunities that could make it possible to move to a new stage in human history; however, it was noted that the potential in the field in question also brings with it a number of challenges and new threats emerging in the cyber domain. The importance and priority of Turkey being prepared for the scientific, military, economic, and social consequences of artificial intelligence studies and developing advanced capabilities in this field were pointed out.
