Operation against fake police gang that swindled 87 million! 22 people arrested

Within the scope of an investigation coordinated by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Fraud Bureau, teams from the Ankara Public Security Branch Directorate conducted an operation against a criminal organization that defrauded citizens by posing as police officers and prosecutors.

It was determined that the suspects convinced victims by calling 11 citizens living in Ankara and using phrases such as, "Your name has been involved in a terrorist organization. Money is being collected on behalf of FETÖ using your identity information. An operation will be carried out against these individuals. Hand over the money and jewelry in your home to the official who will come to your door; it will be returned after the investigation. The money deposited into accounts will be used as collateral."

It was determined that the suspects, who obtained money, foreign currency, and jewelry from the victims using this method, converted the assets in question into cash and transferred them to their own accounts, obtaining a total of approximately 87 million liras in illicit gains.

As a result of technical and physical surveillance by the Fraud Bureau teams, simultaneous operations were carried out in 11 provinces centered in Ankara. The 22 suspects caught in the operation were arrested by the court to which they were referred after their procedures at the police station and sent to prison.
