Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) has seen significant attention due to the density in front of the City Restaurants it has opened. The queue at the IMM's branch in Fatih, in particular, has highlighted this situation once again.

In footage shared on social media by a motorcyclist with the note "This is not Africa, this is Turkey," it was seen that there was a long queue in front of the restaurant and the line extended to the front of businesses in adjacent buildings. The crowd revealed the extent of citizens' demands regarding access to food.

City Restaurants were opened by the IMM at many points in the city in 2022. This issue was also brought up at the AKP MKYK meeting chaired by AKP President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan following the March 31 elections, and it was reported that an MKYK member said, "There are 'City Restaurants'." It was stated that upon this, Erdoğan became angry and reacted by saying, "Can an election be lost because of a City Restaurant? Why, is this possible?"
