Çetin, who was determined to have a blood alcohol level of 2.77 promille, was released, taking into account the time he had spent in custody.
The incident occurred on July 23 on Erek Street. The vehicle driven by Ömer Faruk Çetin, traveling from the city center toward Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Boulevard, crossed the median and struck the motorcycle driven by Efehan Kılıç, who was coming from the opposite direction. While the moment of the accident was captured on security cameras in the vicinity, the young motorcycle rider lost his life, and Çetin was taken to the hospital with injuries. The driver, who was arrested following his treatment, was sent to prison on August 13.
In the case opened at the Tokat 1st Criminal Court of First Instance, Çetin stated in his defense, "I am very regretful; the discretion belongs to the court." The court sentenced Çetin to 4 years, 4 months, and 15 days in prison on the grounds that he acted with conscious negligence due to driving under the influence and the nature of the incident. Çetin, who had been in custody for approximately 79 days, was released, taking this period into account.
