Eren Erdem, the former CHP Deputy Chairman responsible for Media, Planning, and Social Media Policies, noted in a post on his social media account the other evening that current Karşıyaka Mayor Cemil Tugay was being considered as the candidate for İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, stating, "Tunç Soyer is about to be discarded in an unprecedented manner.

At this moment, Tunç Soyer, a name who would win İzmir 100 percent, is being replaced by Mehmet Cengiz's man as we speak.

Ali Mahir Başarır used the following expressions in his statements:

Cemil Tugay is not giving away municipal land to anyone on his own accord. The person mentioned had land in Karşıyaka. He had the right to file a lawsuit. There was a process proceeding legally. If a party member slanders someone over this, the necessary action will be taken. I know Mr. Cemil. He is one of the most honest people in the world. If there is any increase in his assets, let them come and face us. Everyone can support any candidate.

But while supporting a candidate, one does not slander others. If someone is being slandered, they will be held accountable when the time and place come. I am not naming names. No one can say 'that mayor is my man, that mayor is your man.' But no one can create a perception. Our candidates are those desired by the organization. I say let the best one be chosen. Very close friends of mine have also become candidates. I have not called the Central Executive Board (MYK) even once.

Because it is not right. It is not my place either. In the week the candidate is to be announced, some of our friends come out and slander the most honest person in the world; what is going on? I have not heard the slightest thing about our mayor regarding any corruption of his own. He has managed a place for 5 years with honor and integrity.
