Striking remarks from CHP leader Özel on the importance of the Constitutional Court: The final safeguard

CHP leader Özgür Özel visited Constitutional Court President Kadir Özkaya. Following the meeting held at the Constitutional Court, Özel made statements to the press.

Stating that they could not attend the Constitutional Court's anniversary ceremony yesterday because it coincided with the time of their parliamentary group meeting, Özel noted that they carried out this visit today.

CHP leader Özel said, "The Constitutional Court is a court that everyone in Turkey should cherish, protect, and keep away from all kinds of controversy these days.

It is the final safeguard for all of us, for all citizens. The decisions of the Constitutional Court are binding for the legislative, executive, and judicial branches; they carry the weight of the final word. The decisions made by the Constitutional Court regarding rights violations, the implementation of these decisions, and the implementation of rulings from the European Court of Human Rights in Turkey—all of these are issues that must be cherished, regardless of your political views, if you love Turkey, if you care about Turkey's interests, if you care about Turkey's economy, and if you care about Turkey's reputation in the world," he stated.

Özgür Özel, noting that a constitution is the expression of a society's will to live together, assessed that, "The importance you place on the page describing the duties and powers of the Constitutional Court corresponds to the importance a member of parliament places on the Parliament; if you are in the executive branch, if you are a minister, it corresponds to the importance you place on your ministry; if you are the President, it corresponds to the importance you place on the Presidency; and if you are a property owner, it corresponds to your right to property. Ultimately, they are all a whole, and we all need all of them."

Özel was accompanied by CHP Deputy Chairman Gül Çiftci, CHP Parliamentary Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır, and Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş.
