The story behind the YENİ Party logo revealed: Response to Yeni Rakı and Netflix comparisons

Following the establishment of the YENİ Party, an explanation has been provided regarding the party logo, which sparked debate in the public eye. Political communicator Salih Cem Pişkin, who prepared the logo's design, explained the design process and the meaning behind the logo. Pişkin also shared his assessments regarding the comparisons made on social media.

HE EXPLAINED THE STARTING POINT OF THE DESIGN

According to a report by Gözde Yel from T24, Pişkin stated that new logos are always a subject of debate, noting that similar criticisms would have been made even if a different design had been chosen.

Expressing that the logo should be evaluated not only by its color but also by its letter structure, proportions, curves, and holistic character, Pişkin stated that the design possesses a unique identity.

Stating that they preferred to highlight the word "YENİ" (NEW) directly rather than an emblem independent of the party name, Pişkin said this was a conscious political choice. Recalling that political parties in Anatolia are mostly remembered by their emblems, Pişkin stated that they nevertheless assessed that the word "YENİ" written with strong typography would be distinctive for voters.

Addressing criticisms that the logo is not strong enough, Pişkin stated that simplicity is not a deficiency but a conscious choice, adding that they aimed to create an identity that is easily recognizable in every field, from rally squares to phone screens, and from party flags to ballots. Pişkin said, "Strong logos are understood at first glance and are easily remembered."

According to Pişkin, the fundamental starting point of the logo was the YENİ Party's claim of "a new beginning for Turkey."

Stating that the color red represents common belonging, energy, and courage, Pişkin expressed that the layer effect in the word "YENİ" symbolizes change, while the curve beneath it symbolizes a new horizon and moving forward.

HE EVALUATED THE COMPARISONS ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Evaluating the comparisons to Yeni Rakı, Pişkin argued that these interpretations were forced and said they do not expect any legal issues.

Speaking about the Netflix comparisons, Pişkin stated that the use of the color red and shadows alone would not create a similarity. He stated that layered design is a widely used approach in the world of logos.

THREE DIFFERENT DESIGN TEAMS SUBMITTED WORK

Stating that three different teams prepared designs during the logo preparation process, Pişkin noted that numerous works symbolizing cranes and swallows, zeybek figures, and the merging of roads were evaluated.

Stating that as a result of the evaluations, the political committee decided on the typographic design, Pişkin expressed that the current logo was chosen with mutual approval.

"THE LOGO WILL NOT CHANGE, AND NO FEE WAS CHARGED"

Stating that changing the party logo is not on the agenda for now, Pişkin said that only minor touches could be made on special occasions.

Expressing that the trademark registration application was carried out using the current logo, Pişkin noted that neither he nor any agency received a fee for the design work, and that the work was prepared entirely on a voluntary basis.
