They preached 'austerity' to the public, then condemned Israel from a 5-star hotel
While the government announced public austerity measures at the beginning of the week, the Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet), which frequently makes headlines for its luxury spending, condemned Israel at an event held in a 5-star hotel on the very same day.
Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek announced public austerity measures.
At the very moment Minister Şimşek was emphasizing that in-service training would be held in public facilities rather than luxury hotels, he was speaking at the World Islamic Scholars Consultation Summit.
The most affordable nightly accommodation rate at the 5-star Grand Cevahir Hotel and Convention Center in Şişli, Istanbul, is known to be 6,980 TL.
DİYANET HAS 20 HALLS AT ITS DISPOSAL
According to a report by Deniz Ayhan from Sözcü newspaper, in addition to Ali Erbaş, the program, which lasted 2 days, was attended by Prof. Dr. Abdurrahman Haçkalı, Chairman of the High Board of Religious Affairs of the Presidency of Religious Affairs, as well as Vice Presidents of Religious Affairs.
It was reported that department heads, experts in foreign relations, the press team, Erbaş's private secretaries, and his security detail also attended the meeting.
Approximately 200 people took part in the meeting. At the luxury hotel, Islamic scholars condemned the atrocities in Palestine and expressed their sorrow.
The hotel possesses one of the largest hotel congress halls in Europe and is known as Turkey's first five-star congress hotel. Despite the fact that the Diyanet has 20 Religious Specialization Centers and numerous halls across the country, the persistent choice of 5-star hotels for meetings continues to be a subject of public debate.
