They protested Yusuf Tekin: 17 students referred for arrest without being questioned
17 students from the Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) were detained after protesting the MESEM program at a Ministry of National Education workshop. It was reported that the students brought to the Bakırköy Courthouse were referred for arrest without their statements being taken.
A workshop organized by the Ministry of National Education (MEB) was held in Istanbul yesterday. A group of students who are members of the Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) entered the hall where the workshop was taking place to voice their criticisms of the MESEM (Vocational Training Center) program.
The students unfurled a banner in the hall that read, "The blood of children is on your hands." During the protest, slogans such as "Killer bosses will be held accountable" and "Children in MESEM are our rebellion" were chanted.
SECURITY GUARDS INTERVENED
As the protest began, security guards attempted to remove the protesting students from the hall. It was announced that 17 students were detained following the intervention.
17 STUDENTS REFERRED FOR ARREST WITHOUT BEING QUESTIONED
The detained students were brought to the Bakırköy Courthouse today for questioning. However, it was learned that the 17 students were referred for arrest without their statements being taken.
STATEMENT FROM TİP
The following statement was issued by the Workers' Party of Turkey:
“17 of our young comrades have been referred for arrest by the prosecutor without their statements being taken. Release the youth immediately and punish the bosses who abandon children to death!”
POST FROM TİP STUDENTS IN FRONT OF THE HALL
In a statement made on their social media accounts, TİP students stated that they were in front of the hall where the MEB workshop was being held and said the following:
“We are in front of the hall where the MEB workshop is being held! We will hold them accountable for all our friends and all our siblings they have taken from us!”
