The sound of the 6.2 magnitude earthquake in Silivri, Istanbul has been recorded: Starting high-pitched and calm

The sound of the 6.2 magnitude earthquake in Istanbul at the moment it occurred has been recorded. Dr. Hamdullah Livaoğlu and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erman Şentürk from Kocaeli University stated, "The sound starts high-pitched and calm, and represents the energy released by the main shock with a deep, resonant sound as spectral power density."

A 6.2 magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of Silivri, Istanbul.

Citizens, experiencing great panic, took to the streets. AFAD announced that another earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 occurred in the Sea of Marmara at 15:12.

Dr. Hamdullah Livaoğlu and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erman Şentürk from Kocaeli University analyzed the seismic data regarding the earthquake off the coast of Silivri.

The experts converted the seismic signal obtained from the East-West component of the station that recorded the highest ground acceleration of the earthquake into an audible form.

Making a statement on the subject, Kocaeli University's Dr. Hamdullah Livaoğlu and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erman Şentürk said, "Analysis of the East-West component earthquake signal and its audible sound form belonging to the station that recorded the highest ground acceleration of the 6.2 Mw magnitude earthquake.

The sound starts high-pitched and calm, and represents the energy released by the main shock with a deep, resonant sound as spectral power density. The vibration frequencies of the earthquake are characterized and converted into an audible form.

The earthquake sound phenomenon is not a quantitative criterion in seismology; it is a different manifestation of the seismic waves that propagate from the focus and shake the Earth reaching the ground," they said.
