Warning from AKOM for the Marmara Region and Istanbul
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) has announced that temperatures in the Marmara Region, particularly in Istanbul, which have been ranging between 6-9 degrees, will drop below 5 degrees as of Monday, February 2, returning to winter levels.
In a statement released by AKOM, it was warned that air temperatures will drop below 5 degrees starting Monday, February 2, and that showers, storms, and heavy rainfall are expected to continue until Wednesday, February 4.
The following was noted in AKOM's statement:
"It is anticipated that across the Marmara Region, especially in Istanbul, there will be intermittent showers and heavy rainfall, accompanied by local storms, starting from noon today until next Wednesday. Temperatures, which are currently ranging between 6-9 degrees, are expected to drop to winter levels below 5 degrees as of Monday.
With the cold air expected to enter our region starting Monday morning, temperatures are expected to drop to levels conducive to snow; it is estimated that precipitation may appear as sleet and snow in our western districts such as Silivri, Çatalca, Arnavutköy, Büyükçekmece, and Başakşehir. For this reason, it is important for our citizens to be prepared and cautious against winter conditions.”
