Who is the new Minister of Health, Prof. Dr. Kemal Memişoğlu?

It had been rumored for some time that Koca would be leaving his position as Minister of Health. Here is what is known about the new Minister of Health, Prof. Dr. Kemal Memişoğlu, who replaces Fahrettin Koca.

Prof. Dr. Kemal Memişoğlu, who has served as the Istanbul Provincial Health Director for a long time, is a name well-known to the healthcare community. 

WHO IS KEMAL MEMİŞOĞLU?

Prof. Dr. Kemal Memişoğlu is originally from Rize and was born in Trabzon in 1966.

He graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1990. He received his specialization in General Surgery from Okmeydanı Training and Research Hospital in 1995.

Between 1996 and 1998, he worked as a General Surgery Specialist at SSK Konya Ereğli Hospital, PTT Hospital, and Bursa Military Hospital. In 1999-2000, he worked at the University of Miami's Liver and Gastrointestinal Transplantation unit. From 2000 to 2002, he served as a Chief Resident in the Department of General Surgery at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine. At the end of 2002, he was appointed as Chief Physician at PTT Hospital. He became an Associate Professor of General Surgery in 2008 and a Professor of General Surgery in 2016.

He completed his Master's degree in Health Management, which he began at Beykent University in 2007, in 2009. Between 2002 and 2012, he served as the Chief Physician of Istanbul Fatih Sultan Mehmet Training and Research Hospital. On November 2, 2012, he was appointed as the Head of Medical Services for the Istanbul Anatolian North Region Public Hospitals Association. He served as the General Secretary of the same association between May 2014 and October 2016. On October 6, 2016, he was appointed as the Istanbul Provincial Health Director.

Prof. Dr. Memişoğlu has numerous scientific publications in national and international journals. He is married and a father of 3 children.
