Yellow alert issued: Heavy rainfall and snow to affect 23 provinces
As a rain and snow alert has been issued for most of the country, the Turkish State Meteorological Service has called on citizens in 23 provinces to be cautious. Temperatures are expected to rise in the northern, inner, and western regions.
The weather report released for Friday, January 23, indicates that rainy weather will prevail across Turkey. Meteorological authorities stated that heavy rainfall will be effective in some provinces, including Istanbul, Izmir, and Antalya. Strong rains are also expected in western regions such as Edirne, Kırklareli, Çanakkale, and Manisa.
Snowfall will be effective in Central Anatolia, Eastern Anatolia, and the inner parts of the Black Sea region. These include Afyonkarahisar, Denizli, Ankara, Çankırı, Eskişehir, Kayseri, Bolu, and Amasya, along with Rize, Samsun, and Trabzon. Sleet and snow are also forecast for Erzurum, Kars, Malatya, Van, Batman, Diyarbakır, Gaziantep, and Siirt.
Officials emphasized that citizens in the 23 provinces under a yellow alert should be careful against sudden downpours. It was stated that air temperatures will increase mainly in the northern, western, and inner parts of the country, but that the precipitation may occasionally cause disruptions in transportation.
In the latest assessments by the Meteorological Service, it was noted that cloudy and rainy weather will prevail throughout the country, except for the Western Black Sea region. The intensity and type of precipitation will vary by province.
Citizens are advised to follow local warnings and announcements, especially before heading out into traffic.
