YRP Mayor reacts to Kurum after his chair and nameplate are removed

The removal of the nameplate of Yeniden Refah Party (YRP) Metropolitan Mayor Mehmet Kasım Gülpınar from the protocol table at the Şanlıurfa Provincial Coordination Meeting, attended by Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum, sparked reactions. Mayor Gülpınar's remarks regarding the protocol crisis have since emerged.

Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum traveled to Şanlıurfa for a series of official engagements. The Provincial Coordination Board meeting was held at the Governor's Office meeting hall with the participation of Minister Kurum.

Before the meeting chaired by Minister Kurum, a chair had been placed for YRP Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Mayor Mehmet Kasım Gülpınar. However, shortly before the meeting began, the chair bearing Mayor Gülpınar's name was removed from the area.

It is alleged that AKP deputies intervened in the situation, leading to the removal of Mayor Gülpınar's chair from the area where Minister Kurum and Governor Şıldak were seated.

Taking the floor during the meeting following the incident, Mayor Gülpınar reacted to not being given a place in the protocol. YRP Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Mayor Mehmet Kasım Gülpınar, whose chair and nameplate were removed, expressed his grievances to Minister Murat Kurum.

Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Mayor Mehmet Kasım Gülpınar stated that discrimination is not right and expressed the following:

"If we are subjected to different treatment, ignoring something does not make it disappear. God willed it, and we took this seat with the will of 350,000 people. 90 percent of the demands to be raised here are matters that directly concern the Metropolitan Mayor before your ministry. I am not seeking to be in any frame or to be photographed, but at the very least, if Urfa had not been singled out for this kind of discrimination, this meeting would have been much more productive from my perspective. However, we will present our demands to you under any circumstances. The decision is yours."
