Central Bank releases weekly data: Banking sector deposits decrease

According to data released by the Central Bank, the total deposits of the banking sector decreased by 17.5 billion lira in the week ending April 5 compared to the previous week, falling to approximately 15 trillion 905.6 billion lira.

Central Bank releases weekly data: Banking sector deposits decrease

The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) has released its weekly money and banking statistics.

Accordingly, the total deposits of the banking sector (including interbank) decreased by 17 billion 521 million 689 thousand lira in the week ending April 5, falling to 15 trillion 905 billion 636 million 683 thousand lira.

During the same period, TL-denominated deposits in banks rose by 1.82 percent to 8 trillion 715 billion 122 million 813 thousand lira, while foreign currency (FC) denominated deposits decreased by 2.88 percent to 6 trillion 434 billion 759 million 503 thousand lira.

Total FC deposits in banks were calculated at 213 billion 11 million dollars for the week ending April 5, with 180 billion 476 million dollars of this amount held in the accounts of domestic residents.

When considering data adjusted for parity effects in the total FC deposits of domestic residents, a decrease of 4 billion 580 million dollars was observed as of April 5.

INSTALLMENT COMMERCIAL LOAN VOLUME INCREASED

Consumer loans at deposit banks decreased by 0.63 percent in the week ending April 5, reaching 1 trillion 524 billion 174 million 855 thousand lira. During the same period, installment commercial loans rose by 0.46 percent to 1 trillion 462 billion 362 million 275 thousand lira, and credit card balances increased by 1.05 percent to 1 trillion 836 billion 314 million 237 thousand lira.

Of the consumer loans at deposit banks, 401 billion 875 million 190 thousand lira consisted of housing loans, 68 billion 904 million 708 thousand lira of vehicle loans, and 1 trillion 53 billion 394 million 957 thousand lira of other loans.

The total loan volume of the banking sector, including the CBRT, also increased by 13 billion 844 million 152 thousand lira in the week ending April 5, rising to 12 trillion 429 billion 390 million 850 thousand lira. The total loan volume showed an increase of 49.60 percent compared to the same period last year.
