EMRA announces: How much did electricity production increase in February?

According to the Energy Market Regulatory Authority's "Electricity Market Sector Report" for February, 29.2 percent of licensed electricity production was provided by hydroelectric plants, 24.7 percent by imported coal, 12.7 percent by lignite, 12.2 percent by natural gas, and 10.9 percent by wind power plants.

These sources were followed by geothermal, biomass, hard coal, solar, asphaltite, and fuel oil, respectively.

Turkey's licensed electricity production in February increased by 8.2 percent compared to the same month last year, reaching 25 million 615 thousand 763 megawatt-hours.

The amount of billed electricity consumption increased by 13.4 percent in the same period, reaching 21 million 559 thousand 654 megawatt-hours.

Of this consumption, 40.2 percent was used by the industrial sector, 30.7 percent by residential consumers, and 25.8 percent by the public and private services sector and other subscribers. The share of lighting was recorded at 2.4 percent, while the share of agricultural activities was 0.9 percent.

NUMBER OF ELECTRICITY CONSUMERS INCREASED

The number of electricity consumers reached 49 million 829 thousand 477 in February, an increase of 2.1 percent compared to the same month last year.

During this period, there was a 2.2 percent increase in the number of residential consumers, a 1.9 percent increase in the number of public and private services sector and other consumers, and a 3.3 percent increase in the number of agricultural activity consumers. There was an 8.2 percent decrease in the number of industrial consumers and a 0.3 percent decrease in the number of lighting consumers.

Turkey's licensed installed electricity capacity increased by 0.95 percent during this period, reaching 96 thousand 122 megawatts.

Natural gas plants accounted for 25.9 percent of the installed capacity, dam-based hydroelectric plants for 24.6 percent, wind energy for 12.4 percent, imported coal for 10.8 percent, and lignite plants for 10.6 percent, with the remaining portion consisting of facilities producing electricity from other energy sources.
