The figures being discussed for retiree holiday bonuses have emerged
Following the pension hikes, millions of retirees have turned their attention to holiday bonuses. In Ankara, various alternatives are being evaluated to increase the current amount of the bonuses. Here are the figures being discussed on the table...
While SSK and BAĞ-KUR retirees were somewhat relieved by receiving a 12.19 percent raise for the first half of 2026, the base pension was increased from 16,881 liras to 20,000 liras through a legal regulation.
Immediately following this development, another important agenda item has been whether the bonuses paid during holidays will be increased.
There is activity in Ankara's political circles regarding the retiree holiday bonus, which is currently at the 4,000 lira level. While different raise scenarios are being considered according to the economic management's budget calculations, no official statement has been made yet. However, the rates and possible figures being discussed loudly in the corridors remain a hot topic.
SGK Chief Specialist İsa Karakaş, in his assessment of the subject, reminded that the bonuses are covered entirely by the Treasury, and therefore drew attention to the decisive role of the economic management in the decision-making process.
Karakaş stated, "We are not peddling hope. There is no need to deceive anyone. There are those who say one salary. Such a thing is out of the question. It is expected to be between 5,000 and 6,000 liras."
Among the formulas most discussed in the corridors, an increase between 25 percent and 50 percent in holiday bonuses stands out.
In line with this calculation, if a 25 percent raise is decided, the holiday bonus to be paid to retirees could reach 5,000 liras. Higher rates bring the figure of 6,000 liras to the agenda.
Proposals to raise it to the 5,000 lira level for Eid al-Fitr and up to 6,000 liras for Eid al-Adha are on the table. Additionally, it is among the expectations that with the intervention of President Erdoğan, the bonuses could rise to the 5,500 to 6,000 lira band.
