Internet banking usage in Turkey rises to 75.9 percent

Internet banking usage continues to become more widespread in Turkey. According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), the internet usage rate in the country was determined to be 92.3 percent in 2026. The proportion of those using the internet for banking transactions reached 75.9 percent.

This rate indicates that 3 out of every 4 people in the 16-74 age group benefit from internet banking services. The increase in the use of websites and mobile banking applications has been driven by the proliferation of smartphones, the development of digital banking infrastructure, and the ability to complete transactions in less time without visiting a branch.

According to TUIK data, the internet banking usage rate was at the 61.3 percent level in 2022. The rate rose to 67.1 percent in 2023, 71 percent in 2024, and 73.2 percent in 2025. The 75.9 percent level recorded in 2026 revealed that the increase over the last five years has reached approximately 15 percentage points.

When viewed by gender, the rate of internet banking usage was calculated at 87.5 percent for men and 63.7 percent for women. In 2022, this rate was at the 74.3 percent level for men and 47.1 percent for women.

Different results also emerged for other purposes of internet usage. The rate of sending or receiving electronic mail was 48.1 percent in 2026. This rate was measured at 53.4 percent for men and 42.4 percent for women. The proportion of those using the internet to listen to or download podcasts was determined to be 13.3 percent; this rate was 12.7 percent for men and 13.9 percent for women.
