Response to expectations for additional raises for retirees and minimum wage earners comes from the Palace

Whether there will be an additional increase in retirement pensions and the minimum wage has become a subject of debate alongside rising inflation rates and the increasing cost of living. A new development regarding this issue took place in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. DEM Party Istanbul MP Celal Fırat submitted a written question to the government to compensate for the losses in the purchasing power of employees and retirees.

In the motion submitted by Celal Fırat to the Speaker of the Parliament, questions were included regarding whether the lowest retirement pension would be increased by taking into account the hunger and poverty thresholds, whether a change in tax brackets would be on the agenda, and whether an additional raise or welfare share application is planned within the year 2026.

Fırat requested that Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz answer these questions in writing. In particular, topics such as "Will the lowest retirement pension be redetermined by taking into account hunger and poverty rates?", "Will there be a change in tax brackets?", and "Is an additional raise or welfare share for wage earners being considered in 2026?" stood out.

In his response, Yılmaz stated that the authority and responsibility regarding salary regulations do not fall within his area, leaving the answer to the question to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. He included the following statements in his response:

"In accordance with Presidential Decree No. 1 on the Presidential Organization and Presidential Decree No. 4 on the Organization of Institutions and Organizations Affiliated, Related, and Associated with Ministries and Other Institutions and Organizations, motions falling within the scope of duty and authority of the ministries are answered by the ministries.

In this respect, the matters mentioned in the written question motion with the reference number 7/46016 submitted by Istanbul MP Mr. Celal Fırat fall within the scope of duty and authority of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security."
