According to a report by Mert Öner from Cumhuriyet, the dormitory construction at Boğaziçi University, which recently made headlines due to the death of a worker, is being carried out by Mehmet Sedat Taktak, who was arrested for membership in the IBDA-C terrorist organization.

It has been learned that the tender for the construction in question was awarded to Çevre Mühendislik İnşaat Sanayi ve Ticaret Anonim Şirketi, where Mehmet Sedat Taktak, who was convicted of membership in the IBDA-C terrorist organization, serves as the chairman of the board.

FIRED FROM BİMTAŞ, ENTERED CONSTRUCTION

According to information on the website of the Istanbul Project Coordination Unit, which is affiliated with the Istanbul Governorship, the value of the tender is 158 million 200 thousand TL. It was learned that the tender was awarded to a joint venture between Çevre Mühendislik and Bakırcı Yapı ve Gayrimenkul Ticaret Anonim Şirketi. The chairman of the board of Çevre Mühendislik is Mehmet Sedat Taktak, who was captured and arrested in 2000 for the crime of membership in the IBDA-C terrorist organization and was subsequently sentenced. Following his release in the same year, Taktak was appointed as the deputy general manager of Boğaziçi Peyzaj İnşaat Müşavirlik Teknik Hizmetler Ağaç Sanayi ve Ticaret Anonim Şirketi (BİMTAŞ), a subsidiary of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. In 2002, Taktak was removed from his post following an investigation conducted by civil service inspectors on the grounds of his IBDA-C membership. The company in question has received tenders totaling 2 billion 204 million TL.

EVEN ENTERING THE GATE IS AN ISSUE

On the other hand, under the administration of appointed rectors Melih Bulu and Naci İnci at Boğaziçi University, the access cards of many students and academics were unlawfully canceled. Alumni whose cards were unlawfully canceled also gather in front of the school on the first Friday of every month. However, the Boğaziçi University administration continues these cancellations. It was stated that the school entry cards of three students were canceled this weekend as well.

Speaking to Cumhuriyet on the subject, Talha Keskin, one of the students whose card was canceled, stated that despite being in his second year at the school, his card had been canceled three times, saying, "Although this is my second year at the school, this is my third card cancellation. No reason was given, but we understand why now. The rector had an international law conference at the school over the weekend. The cards of students who filled out the registration form for this conference, where he hosted his own circle, and whom the administration knows to be dissidents, were canceled. Our friends' cards are also being canceled. However, these pressures from the rector do not scare us. The rector does not want us to be in certain parts of the school. We will continue to be wherever he does not want us to be." The newspaper Cumhuriyet noted that they did not receive a response to the questions they asked Boğaziçi University regarding the matter.
