AKOM issues warning: Strong winds and downpours heading for Istanbul

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) has issued a warning for strong winds and heavy rainfall across Istanbul for today. While the air temperature is 25 degrees in the morning, it is expected to rise to 31 degrees by midday. However, the northeasterly winds (poyraz) expected to blow from the north in the afternoon are forecast to reach speeds of 75 km/h, acting as a storm. Starting from the evening hours, thunderstorms are expected throughout the province.

AKOM stated that the storm and rainfall will be effective until the evening hours, urging citizens to be cautious against negative consequences such as flash floods, water inundation, transportation disruptions, roof damage, and fallen trees.

Regarding data on Istanbul's water resources, it was noted that the dam occupancy rate is at 51.04 percent, with the amount of water in the dams measured at 443 million cubic meters. The sea water temperature was recorded at 26 degrees.

Throughout the week, air temperatures in Istanbul are expected to fluctuate between 29 and 32 degrees, with thunderstorms forecast to continue until Friday. From Saturday onwards, weather conditions are expected to improve, with sunny days returning.
