Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan, who went to Mount Ararat for volcanic research, was caught in a flash flood

Istanbul Technical University faculty member Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan was caught in a flash flood caused by sudden rainfall while conducting volcanic research on Mount Ararat.

Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan, who went to Mount Ararat for volcanic research, was caught in a flash flood

Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Faculty of Mines faculty member and Geophysical Engineer Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan experienced a major danger during his volcanic research on Mount Ararat.

On the way back, Prof. Dr. Ercan and the 33 people accompanying him were caught in a flash flood caused by a sudden downpour. Prof. Dr. Ercan stated that they were rescued from this dangerous situation with the help of gendarmerie teams.

Prof. Dr. Ercan described the incident they experienced on social media as follows:

"We went up to 3200 meters of Mount Ararat, Turkey's peak at 5137 meters, for volcanic research via an Ararat safari with 4x4 jeeps. Due to the sudden snow, hail, and downpour, we were caught in a flood while 33 of us were descending the mountain. We were rescued with the help of the gendarmerie and later went up to Süphan and Nemrut."
