Attacked by her ex-boyfriend: 'If the knife hadn't broken, I wouldn't have had a chance to live'

The incident occurred on June 21, 2026, in the Fidanlık area of the Gazipaşa district. According to the information obtained, Özge Çelik (32), a mother of one who is separated from her husband, had filed complaints against her ex-boyfriend O.K., from whom she had separated some time ago, on various dates for threats, insults, and battery. It was learned that Çelik had obtained successive protection and restraining orders against the suspect during this period.

Allegedly, O.K., who was in prison in Samsun for another crime, came to Gazipaşa after being released on leave. On the day of the incident, an argument broke out between Çelik, who had gone to the Fidanlık area with her colleagues, and O.K. As the argument escalated, it was alleged that O.K. attacked Çelik with a knife he had with him. The young woman, who received numerous blows to her head, back, and various parts of her body, called for help via the KADES application during the attack. It was claimed that the knife broke in the woman's back, the suspect continued to attack with the remaining part of the broken knife, and he dragged the young woman by her hair.

While citizens in the vicinity and Çelik's friends intervened in the incident, health and police teams were dispatched to the area upon notification. The injured woman was taken to the hospital by ambulance after the first intervention by health teams and was taken under treatment. It was learned that Çelik sustained wounds in various parts of her body due to the knife blows, and she has muscle tearing and loss of strength in her left arm. After the incident, the individual was apprehended by law enforcement officers.

"He continued his threats by calling from prison"

Stating that she broke up with her ex-boyfriend on January 19, Özge Çelik said she made this decision due to what they experienced during their relationship. Claiming that she was beaten on the day she announced her decision to separate, Çelik described what she went through with the following words:

"I broke up with him on January 19. I decided to end the relationship after seeing his anger management issues and his criminal record during our relationship. On January 19, the day I told him this, I was beaten and filed a complaint. Subsequently, the threats, insults, and defamation against my circle continued. I only filed complaints against all the moves he made. I have at least 5-6 complaints against him. I obtained a protection order. Since January 19, I have obtained 6 restraining orders without interruption, and finally a 7th one."

Claiming that the suspect also made threats against her relatives, Çelik alleged that the suspect continued to call her and her circle even after he went to prison, saying, "He was sending death threats about me to my entire circle and family. He went to prison in Samsun in March, but he didn't stop after entering prison. He continued his threats that he would kill me by calling me, my workplace, and my friends from prison numbers," she said.

"The child is playing with her grandfather, and you are on the balcony"

Stating that she learned from her colleague that the suspect had come to Gazipaşa on leave before the incident, Çelik continued her words as follows:

"A mutual acquaintance told me that O.K. had been released from prison on leave and had come to Gazipaşa. Later, O.K. contacted my colleague by calling and saying, ‘Özge's daughter is currently playing with her grandfather under the house, and Özge is upstairs. If I were going to do something bad, I would go up and do it. I have no bad intentions, I want to talk to you.' He also came to the cross-street of my workplace. He had come to the place where I worked many times before and caused trouble."

"I was lucky that the knife was broken and the blows did not hit my organs"

Explaining that she asked her friends to be with her on the day of the incident because she did not feel safe, Çelik said that the incident developed in a short time. Stating that O.K. came towards her and she told him to stay away, Çelik described the moment of the attack with these words:

"On the day of the incident, I had to call someone because I didn't feel safe. We weren't alone; there were 3-4 other people with us. Everything happened very suddenly. He came towards me. I told him not to come towards me and tried to run away. First, I received a punch to my stomach. Then he grabbed me by my hair and struck knife blows to my back. I was lucky that the knife broke in my back on the third or fourth blow."

Stating that she started to run away with the intervention of those around her and pressed KADES, Çelik alleged that the suspect continued to follow her with the broken knife. "When the people around me held him, I ran away and pressed KADES. I kept pressing KADES, but he continued to come at me with the remaining small part of the broken knife. I couldn't run away because I was wounded and out of breath. Here, he dragged me by my hair and struck knife blows to my head and back for about 15 minutes. I was lucky that the knife was broken and the blows did not hit my organs."

Stating that the suspect was distanced from her with the intervention of the people around, Çelik stated that she was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Expressing that her treatment process continues, Çelik said, "Muscle tearing occurred due to the knife blows. That's why I still cannot fully use my left arm and there is a loss of strength in my arm. I will start physical therapy. There are scars on my face, back, and head. All the blows were dealt with the remaining part of the broken knife. If that knife hadn't broken, I wouldn't have had a chance to live. During the attack, he was also constantly saying, ‘I will kill you, you will die'," she expressed.

"For us, it is attempted murder"

Yağmur Burçin Sayın Kurt, who undertook the attorney duties of Özge Çelik on behalf of the Association of Children and Women First, argued that the incident was investigated as 'intentional injury', but the act was in the nature of attempted murder. Kurt said, "We are facing an act of violence against a woman in the Gazipaşa district of Antalya on June 21, which is evaluated as intentional injury but is in the nature of attempted murder from our perspective. After the parties' relationship, which lasted for a while, the suspect enters prison within the scope of another file. My client obtains 6 restraining orders against this person. Because he constantly threatens her with her child, her life, and her family. Even though the person is in prison, my client's restraining orders continue," she said.

"He said 'Today is the big day' and hung up the phone"

Claiming that the suspect was released from prison on leave on June 18, attorney Kurt stated that no information was given to her client about this. Alleging that the suspect called from a different number and said "Today is the big day" and hung up the phone, Kurt said, "My client goes to her workplace normally and shares the situation with her employers. The suspect also calls her employers, saying that he is very regretful and that my client should withdraw her complaint. Her employers also suggest this to my client in good faith, but my client does not want to withdraw her complaint," she said.

"There are about 30 knife wounds"

Arguing that the suspect having a knife with him during the incident shows that the act was premeditated, Kurt continued her words as follows:

"When my client went to the area known as Fidanlık, this person had a knife with him. He stabs my client and the knife breaks in her back. The attack does not end after the knife breaks; my client is dragged by her hair. There are about 30 knife wounds. How can one speak of only an injury here? The fact that the person came with a knife shows, from our perspective, that there was premeditation and intent to kill. In criminal law, the purpose for which the perpetrator acts, that is, the motive, is important. Since my client did not lose her life, the act remained at the attempt stage. We definitely think that this crime is attempted intentional murder."

"She obtained her 7th restraining order"

Stating that Özge Çelik obtained a restraining order for the 7th time after the incident, Kurt said that her client's fear continues. Kurt said, "Even though the person is in prison, my client's fears are very high. He still wants to call her or is calling her. Upon this, my client obtained a new restraining order. My client has told us many times that what she experienced negatively affected her outlook on life and her desire to live, and that she could not be productive enough towards her child. We stand by our client and women," she said.

"Notifying protection orders is important for life safety"

Emphasizing that the full implementation of the protection and restraining orders issued within the scope of Law No. 6284 is of vital importance, Kurt said, "The implementation of restraining and protection orders, and the relevant judicial authorities personally notifying the people who request protection orders about developments such as release from prison on leave, is very important for life safety. Our file is currently at the investigation stage. After the final doctor's report arrives, we will follow the file to the end so that the incident is evaluated as attempted murder, not injury," she said.
