Taleb A., the suspect in the vehicle attack on a Christmas market in the German city of Magdeburg on Friday, December 20, has been arrested on charges of murder and attempted murder. The court announced the decision regarding the suspect to the public yesterday.

Authorities conducting the investigation stated that the likely reason for the attack was the suspect's dissatisfaction with the treatment of Saudi refugees.

Prosecutor Horst Nopens said, "The suspect did not make a direct confession, but his past statements and behavior point to such a motivation."

It was determined that Taleb A., of Saudi origin, who has been living in Germany since 2006, had openly rejected the Islamic religion and organized campaigns for Saudi refugees. Furthermore, it was announced that the suspect had made statements accusing German authorities and the police of "oppression" and had recently directed harsh criticisms toward officials.
