'Faith healer' detail had drawn attention in Narin Güran murder: Statement from the Governor's Office

8-year-old Narin Güran, who lived in Diyarbakır, went missing on August 21 and was found dead in a stream bed 19 days later as a result of search efforts.

In this tragic event, the allegation that the Gendarmerie Criminal Investigation Department (JASAT) visited a "faith healer" during the days Narin was missing dropped like a bombshell.

As the minutes regarding the incident were entered into the case file, a statement on the matter came from the Diyarbakır Governor's Office.

Allegation of Faith Healer Visit in Case File

According to documents entered into the case file, a village headman suggested to the Gendarmerie team an individual who allegedly performs readings to find missing persons in the center of Diyarbakır, and the Gendarmerie teams subsequently went to the address in question.

In the document, the statement of the JASAT officer includes the information: “The headman said there was a 'hoca' (religious figure/healer) in Diyarbakır who finds missing persons by reading.”

''I informed my commanders and we went to the address. When the hoca started reading, Narin's brother M.G. began to mutter and describe certain places. When it was Narin's mother's turn, my commander called me, so I left the address,” he recounted.

The Diyarbakır Governor's Office, in a written statement regarding the matter, reported that, contrary to the allegations, Gendarmerie personnel did not meet with any individual referred to as a "faith healer" during the search efforts for Narin Güran.

The Governor's Office stated, “It has been observed that some websites have published news reports claiming that 'The Gendarmerie took the headman and went to a faith healer to find Narin Güran,' and it has become necessary to make a statement to inform the public accurately.”
