A new statement has come from State Theatres General Manager Tamer Karadağlı following his remarks that caused reactions, "The Tulip Era is over." Karadağlı clarified his controversial words.
The final stop of the Turkey Culture Route Festival, organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, was Antalya. State Theatres General Manager Tamer Karadağlı clarified his highly debated "The Tulip Era is over" statement. Karadağlı said, "As the State Theatres, we have made significant progress in the last year. For the first time in our 75-year history, we have increased our audience numbers from 1 million 300 thousand a year ago to 2 million 250 thousand. This success was made possible through the right selection of works and good teamwork."
Continuing his speech, Karadağlı stated, "Our goal is not to punish, but to be inclusive. There is so much demand for us; from our governors, from our district governors... To meet these demands, we need to produce new plays and I need to utilize my existing artists."
Noting that he supports artists working outside and grants permission for it, Karadağlı said, "They should also fulfill their primary duties. I need to constantly produce new projects to meet those demands."
