The 'bests' of electric cars revealed: The brands at the top of the list

According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the number of registered electric cars has increased by 3,904 percent over the last year, rising from 32,777 to 131,217. When hybrid cars, which number over 300,000, are included in this figure, the number of cars on the road with electric motors has reached approximately 450,000.

As of August 2024, the number of 100% electric car models offered for sale by approximately 20 different automotive manufacturers has approached 40.

Hürriyet newspaper has compiled the 'bests' of electric cars in Turkey and listed them according to the top 5 rankings.

According to research prepared with the support of şarjagel.com, which offers electric vehicle solutions, the Mercedes-Benz EQS and Porsche Taycan top the list of cars with the highest range on paper in the WLTP cycle, with 678 km.

These two models are followed by the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 with 667 km, while the Skywell ET5 LR and SsangYong Torres EVX, which have a range of 635 km, took fourth and fifth place.

Meanwhile, it is worth noting that in the latest tests conducted by the EcoBest Challenge, the cars closest to the announced WLTP range values in the top 5 are, in order: Audi Q4 Sportback 45 e-Tron, BMW i5 Touring, Kia EV9, Opel Corsa, and Hyundai Kona.

As of January-July 2024, the best-selling electric car model in Turkey was the Togg T10X with 14,248 units, followed by the Tesla Model Y with 3,502 units, the SsangYong Torres EVX with 2,597 units, the BMW 5 Series with 1,671 units, and the BMW X1 with 1,579 units.

The cars with the highest gross battery capacity were ranked as follows: the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 with 108 kWh, the Audi Q8 E-Tron with 106 kWh, the BMW iX with 105.2 kWh, the BMW i7 with 105.7 kWh, and the Porsche Taycan with 105 kWh.

As of August, the car with the shortest 0-100 km/h acceleration time was the Taycan Turbo S at 2.4 seconds, while the most affordable electric car model was the Dacia Spring at 892 thousand TL.

Stating that they recently published the “Electric Vehicle Consumer Trends Report” as a result of a survey conducted with consumers, Şarjagel.com General Manager Selçuk Nazik said, “The majority of consumers participating in the survey stated that there should be a range of 800 kilometers, and that they would make a purchase once the range reaches these levels. Furthermore, 80 percent of consumers emphasize that the charging time from zero to one hundred percent should be completed within a maximum of half an hour. Today, there is no electric vehicle with a range of over 700 kilometers on sale in Turkey yet.”
