TÜRK-İŞ had proposed 29,583 TL for the minimum wage: If this figure is accepted, what will happen to the increases in other items?

Negotiations regarding the 2025 minimum wage, which millions of employees are eagerly awaiting, began on December 10.

In the first two meetings of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, the worker and employer sides shared their views, but no specific figure was mentioned.

TÜRK-İŞ EXPLAINED THE JUSTIFICATION FOR ITS DEMAND

Representing the employees at the table, TÜRK-İŞ adopted a strategic approach and did not disclose its demand until the end of the third meeting.

Following the meeting held on December 19, TÜRK-İŞ announced its minimum wage proposal as 29,583 TL, demanding a total increase of 74 percent, consisting of a 45 percent raise and a 20 percent welfare share.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF TÜRK-İŞ'S PROPOSAL IS ACCEPTED?

The minimum wage affects not only low-income employees but also many economic items. Unemployment benefits, severance pay, Social Security Institution (SGK) premiums, intern salaries, and even deductions made for the private pension system (BES) are recalculated based on the minimum wage.

SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS

The 74 percent increase demanded for the minimum wage will change unemployment benefits as follows:

Maximum unemployment benefit: 27,632 TL (current: 15,880 TL)

Minimum unemployment benefit: 13,816 TL (current: 7,940 TL)

ANNUAL EARNINGS IN SEVERANCE PAY ARE INCREASING

Annual severance pay for a person working at minimum wage:

With the new salary: 34,803 TL

With the current salary: 20,002 TL

The increase in the minimum wage will also increase General Health Insurance (GSS) premiums:

Monthly GSS premium: 1,045 TL (current: 600 TL)

Annual GSS premium: 12,529 TL (current: 7,200 TL)

Intern salaries determined based on the minimum wage:

With the new salary: 8,875 TL

With the current salary: 5,100 TL

BES deduction made at a rate of 3 percent of the gross minimum wage:

With the new salary: 1,044 TL

With the current salary: 600 TL

In the final meeting of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, the proposals of the worker and employer sides will be evaluated. If TÜRK-İŞ's proposal of 29,583 TL is accepted, major changes will occur in economic conditions for millions of employees.
