Akın Gürlek donates compensation income to the Turkish Red Crescent

Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek announced in a social media post that he has donated the 150,000 lira in non-pecuniary damages he was awarded to the Turkish Red Crescent. Gürlek expressed his gratitude to the staff of the Red Crescent for their work in aid, charity, and solidarity. The donation stood out as it coincided with the ongoing judicial proceedings regarding the AHBAP Association and Haluk Levent, which have been on the agenda in recent days.

As part of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into the AHBAP Association, an arrest warrant was issued for the association's president, Haluk Levent, and he was taken into custody by law enforcement. These developments caused the allegations that the Red Crescent had sold tents to AHBAP during the earthquake period to resurface.

Gürlek's statement included the following remarks:

"With its deep-rooted history, self-sacrificing employees, and volunteers, the Turkish Red Crescent, which stands by those in need during disasters and times of crisis, is one of the strongest representatives of our noble nation's spirit of benevolence.

Our citizens can donate to the Turkish Red Crescent with peace of mind and confidence; they can trust that every contribution made will be a hope for someone in need and a balm for a wound.

On this occasion, I have donated the 150,000 TL collected as a result of a non-pecuniary damages lawsuit I filed due to unfair accusations made against me to the Red Crescent.

I would like to thank all the employees and volunteers of the Turkish Red Crescent, which is a symbol of kindness and solidarity, delivering our nation's helping hand to every corner of the world.

We will continue to stand by solidarity, compassion, and brotherhood."
