Breaking News... Investigation launched into Ekrem İmamoğlu
An investigation has been launched against presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu for the crime of "threatening a public official" due to his remarks in court.
Statements made by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu during a hearing in which he was being tried have triggered a legal process. The Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced in a statement released via social media that an ex officio investigation has been launched against İmamoğlu due to certain sentences he uttered during the hearing.
The statement indicated that the words used by İmamoğlu during the hearing held on July 8, 2026, "I will not make a defense, I will judge, I will judge, do not worry, I will judge those who prepared the indictment..." were the grounds for the investigation in question.
The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office shared with the public that proceedings have been initiated against İmamoğlu on the charge of "threatening a public official" in light of these statements.
