Investigation into the school attack in Kahramanmaraş... Requested sentences for İsa Aras Mersinli's parents have been announced

The indictment prepared regarding the armed attack that took place on April 15, 2026, at Ayşer Çalık Secondary School in the Onikişubat district of Kahramanmaraş, which resulted in the deaths of 9 students and one teacher, and left 15 others injured, has been accepted by the court. Following the death of the attacker, İsa Aras Mersinli, the prosecutor's office continued its investigation and has now completed the legal process involving his parents.

In a statement issued by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was noted that the investigation concluded as of July 20, 2026. It was recorded that an indictment was prepared against the attacker's father, Uğur Mersinli, who is also a police chief, for "attempted murder with possible intent" and "violation of the Law on Firearms No. 6136," while legal proceedings were initiated against his mother, teacher Peyman Pınar Mersinli, on the grounds of "causing death and injury by conscious negligence."

These indictments prepared within the scope of the investigation were accepted by the Kahramanmaraş 3rd High Criminal Court. Thus, the trial of both Uğur Mersinli and Peyman Pınar Mersinli has begun.

The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office included the following statement in its announcement: "A press release has been deemed necessary to inform the public accurately regarding the armed attack that occurred on 15.04.2026 at Ayşer Çalık Secondary School, located in Haydarbey Neighborhood, Onikişubat District, Kahramanmaraş Province, which resulted in the deaths of 9 students and 1 teacher, and the injury of 15 students. The investigation conducted by our Kahramanmaraş Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the armed attack was completed as of 20.07.2026, and an indictment was prepared against suspect Uğur MERSİNLİ for the crimes of Murder with Possible Intent and Violation of Law No. 6136; and against the other suspect, Peyman Pınar Mersinli, for the crime of Causing Death and Injury by Conscious Negligence. The indictment has been accepted by the Kahramanmaraş 3rd High Criminal Court and the trial process has begun. Respectfully announced to the public."

The attacker's parents, who were detained after the incident, were subsequently arrested. With the acceptance of the indictments by the court, the judicial process regarding the tragic attack, which caused widespread repercussions in the public, has entered a significant phase.

In the incident on April 15, many people at the school lost their lives as a result of the armed attack, while the injured were taken to the hospital for treatment. Authorities, who have been continuing the investigation since that date, carried out meticulous work to identify those responsible, and the legal process has officially begun with the prepared and accepted indictments.
