A second wave of operations has been carried out in the investigation into Silifke Municipality in Mersin. As part of the investigation conducted by the Silifke Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 7 people, including deputy mayors, were taken into custody.
The investigation alleges that "tenders, procurement of goods and services, progress payments, and zoning and licensing procedures were carried out within a specific organization to obtain unfair benefits from third parties" within the municipality.
It is claimed that evidence has been obtained indicating that certain managers and personnel working at the municipality, along with some individuals outside the institution, acted within a continuous division of labor.
In line with expert reports, witness statements, and testimonies provided by some municipal employees under the scope of "effective remorse," Silifke Municipality Deputy Mayors O.Ş. and R.D., former Zoning Manager E.T.T., Zoning Directorate personnel Y.N.Ç., former Zoning Directorate employees Ü.D. and A.E.S., and businessman M.K. were taken into custody.
The detained suspects were referred to the courthouse following their processing at the police station.
In the investigation launched in June regarding allegations of "bribery," "rigging of tenders," and "extortion" against Silifke Municipality, 11 people, including Mayor Mustafa Turgut, had been arrested. Following Turgut's suspension from duty, CHP Council Member Oğuzhan Kökten won the election for acting mayor.
