Nuri Bilge Ceylan's statement on Zeki Demirkubuz: 'I was the one humiliated, but I am certainly not inferior'

The public had been wondering whether the allegation that the film 'Three Monkeys', signed by Palme d'Or-winning director Nuri Bilge Ceylan, was stolen from a screenplay by Zeki Demirkubuz was true.

Ceylan denied the claims that he shot the film Three Monkeys from a screenplay written by Demirkubuz.

'HE IS BEING VERY SHAMEFUL'

According to the report by Olkan Özyurt from 10 Haber, Ceylan broke his silence on the matter, which he had written about on March 26, 2014:

“Of course, there is no such thing... Actually, Zeki knows this very well too, but for some reason, he prefers to create the impression that there is. I mean, he doesn't say it openly; instead, he does it from a safe distance where he can easily deny it if necessary. I think he is being very shameful. After all, we were friends for so many years and helped each other so much. I can understand the sense of competition, but I would have expected it to be done in a sportsmanlike manner at least. Not by hitting below the belt like this.”

'HE IS TAKING REVENGE IN HIS OWN WAY'

Continuing his remarks, Ceylan said, "Moreover, in an interview he gave years later, he even said that he had not watched the film 'Three Monkeys'. How can a person imply such things about a film they claim not to have watched? I don't know. Perhaps he is taking revenge in his own way because, in 2006 (that is, two years before Three Monkeys), I suddenly started acting cold toward him due to some not-so-important matters and then, albeit with some sadness, stopped seeing him.

He has pursued a sophisticated strategy of 'throw mud, some will stick' by carefully placing calculated details into his film. Yes, perhaps I was the one humiliated here, but I am certainly not the one who is inferior," he stated.
