US actor Richard Roundtree has passed away at the age of 81.

Patrick McMinn, the actor's manager, announced that Roundtree had succumbed to pancreatic cancer.

'OUR HEARTS ARE WITH HIS FAMILY'

In a statement, the agency representing Roundtree said, “His groundbreaking career changed the face of entertainment worldwide. He left a lasting legacy for young people. Our hearts are with his family.”

Richard Roundtree, who acted for 50 years, became the first Black action hero with his role as 'Detective John Shaft!' in the 1971 production.
