Chef Somer Sivrioğlu’s Anason restaurant, which he opened in Sydney, Australia, in 2015, has been placed under trusteeship due to tax debts.
According to a report by the Daily Telegraph, the restaurant owes 2 million 60 thousand Australian Dollars to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). It was stated that this amount corresponds to approximately 72.4 million TL.
Speaking to the newspaper, Sivrioğlu said that the business has been in “survival mode” for about five years and has been experiencing serious financial difficulties. Sivrioğlu stated, “This is a very successful business, but unfortunately, we were unable to pay our rapidly accumulating tax debts during a difficult period.”
The famous chef noted that he wants to keep the business running, stating that they applied for a small business restructuring, but that this application was rejected. Sivrioğlu added that they subsequently applied for a 30-month repayment plan and had been waiting for a response for more than four months.
Emphasizing that the restaurant continues its operations as normal, Sivrioğlu maintained that they have no debts to suppliers, staff, or other creditors. Sivrioğlu used the expression, “Our only debt is to the ATO.”
