Uğur Yücel's statement saddens fans: 'I have quit acting'

Master actor Uğur Yücel was the guest of honor on the first day of Brand Week Istanbul, which is being held for the 11th time this year.

The session titled "The Artist Between Destroying and Recreating" was moderated by Yekta Kopan.

Expressing that he considers "The Bandit" (Eşkıya) the reason he quit acting, Uğur Yücel said that he does not watch his old films, but when he coincidentally came across "The Bandit" outdoors, he cried for the first time.

Yücel explained that he did not like his own acting in the film and that he quit acting at that time.

'NORMAL PEOPLE ARE CONFORMISTS'

Stating that "Normal people are conformists, not artists," Yücel continued his words by saying, "By their nature and creations, they cannot be normal people; they cannot display their existence in harmony as expected of them."

Recounting that he told Yıldız Kenter while studying at the conservatory, "I don't want to be a theater actor," the actor explained that he was on the verge of dropping out of the conservatory with the desire to "play the people," but was persuaded by Haldun Taner with the words, "You cannot be a good cabaret actor if you don't play Aristophanes and don't know Shakespeare."

'I HAVE NEVER HELD A TITLE'

Repeating during his speech that he is not an actor and stating that he does not accept titles, Yücel said, "I have never had a title in my life. I started earning money by playing the drums at the Mehtap Wedding Hall in Üsküdar.

Musician, theater actor, filmmaker, director, screenwriter... People call me all of these, but I do not take them as titles for myself. I am not saying this out of modesty either. Everyone has very grand titles; I don't know if there is a need for this."
