Volkan Konak: 'I will no longer sing in this disloyal and loveless political choir'

The artist Volkan Konak, who recently made headlines after the Diyanet (Presidency of Religious Affairs) filed a criminal complaint against him, has announced that he is quitting music.

'ERASE ME, I AM NO LONGER HERE'

Making a statement on his social media account, the artist said, "In our country and in the Middle East, political parties are either cults or one-man systems, and they are areas for politicians to enrich themselves. I will not sing in this disloyal and loveless political choir. Therefore, erase me. I am no longer here."

WHAT HAPPENED?

Volkan Konak, who criticized the fact that Diyanet personnel receive salaries funded by taxes collected from entertainment venues, had said on New Year's Eve that he was having a drink for them as well, thereby contributing to their salaries.

Following this, the Diyanet filed a criminal complaint against Konak. In a statement issued by the Diyanet, it was alleged that in his social media post, Konak "offended and violated the personal rights of the Presidency of Religious Affairs, which is tasked by law with 'conducting affairs related to the beliefs, worship, and moral principles of the Islamic religion, enlightening society on religious matters, and managing places of worship,' and its highest representative, Ali Erbaş."
