Kenyan marathon record-holding athlete Kelvin Kiptum (24) has lost his life in a traffic accident.

The news of Kiptum's death was announced by the country's former prime minister, Raila Odinga.

In a social media post, Odinga stated, "Kenya has lost a gem. I am at a loss for words."

HIS COACH ALSO LOST HIS LIFE

Along with Kiptum, his coach Gervais Hakizimana also lost his life in the same accident.

It was learned that the vehicle the two were in crashed in the city of Eldoret, Kenya.

The 24-year-old athlete had set a world record by running 42 kilometers in 2 hours and 35 minutes.
