Yılmaz Güney's family applies to court: Exhume Sefa Mutlu's grave

Lawyer Bişar Abdi Alınak, representing director, actor, and screenwriter Yılmaz Güney’s wife Fatoş Güney and their children Yılmaz and Güney Pütün, has applied to the Ankara 1st High Criminal Court requesting the exhumation of Judge Sefa Mutlu’s grave in the village of Suvermez, located in the Derinkuyu district of Nevşehir.

According to a report by Evrim Kepenek from bianet, if it is determined that the incident in which Sefa Mutlu lost his life constituted the crime of “manslaughter resulting from exceeding the limits of intent” rather than “intentional homicide,” there could be legal changes.

'IT WOULD PROVE HE DID NOT KILL INTENTIONALLY'

Lawyer Bişar Abdi Alınak stated, "Within the limits of legitimate self-defense, the most that could be established here is the crime of manslaughter resulting from exceeding the limits of intent. This legal provision would demonstrate that he did not kill knowingly and willingly."

The Güney family also stated that Yılmaz Güney was swiftly punished for a crime he did not commit due to his leftist and socialist views.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Yılmaz Güney was sentenced to 19 years of heavy imprisonment for the alleged murder of Judge Sefa Mutlu in the Yumurtalık district of Adana, where he had gone to film "Endişe" on September 13, 1974.

Sent to the Isparta Semi-Open Prison to serve his sentence, Güney was released on leave from the prison on October 9, 1981.

He went to France and never returned. Stripped of his citizenship in 1982, Güney passed away in 1984 due to cancer.
