29 students hospitalized in Gümüşhane over suspected food poisoning

A large number of students at the boarding school of the İmam Hatip Middle School in the town of Ünlüpınar, Kelkit district, experienced abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting after eating pita bread ordered from outside for lunch. Upon the increase in complaints, the school administration notified medical teams.

29 students were taken to Kelkit State Hospital by ambulances dispatched to the scene and placed under treatment. According to initial information, the students are in good health, and they will be discharged based on the results of the tests to be conducted.

Meanwhile, the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the incident, and samples taken from the pita bread and beverages will be analyzed.

STATEMENT FROM THE GÜMÜŞHANE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE

The Gümüşhane Governor's Office announced that 23 of the 29 students hospitalized on suspicion of food poisoning have been discharged, while 6 remain under observation, and that the students' general health condition is good.

The Gümüşhane Governor's Office issued a written statement following the hospitalization of 29 students at the Kelkit Ünlüpınar İmam Hatip Middle School with complaints of "nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain." The statement noted that the students were brought to the Kelkit State Hospital Emergency Department at 16:14 today via 112 ambulances and walk-in admissions. The Governor's Office reported that the students were said to have fallen ill after consuming pita bread and ayran for lunch, and stated that their general health condition is good and they are not in life-threatening danger. It was noted that as of 19:00, 23 of the 29 students under treatment had been discharged, while 6 students continued to be kept under observation.

The statement indicated that teams from the District Health Directorate and the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry have begun laboratory examinations after taking water and food samples, and that the Kelkit Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched a judicial investigation into the incident.
