Defendant who caused the death of Oğuz Murat Aci's cousin Anıl released

Anıl Aci, the cousin of Oğuz Murat Aci—who lost his life in Eyüpsultan after being struck by a vehicle driven without a license by the son of author Eylem Tok while dealing with an ATV breakdown—had lost his life on March 11 after being hit by a truck while checking his car, which had broken down in the emergency lane on the Silivri TEM highway.

A verdict was reached in the first hearing where the defendant, Sait İ., who caused Anıl Aci's death by hitting him with the truck he was driving, appeared before the judge.

The hearing held at the Silivri 5th Criminal Court of First Instance was attended by the detained defendant Sait İ. via the Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS). Complainants Hülya Akbulut and Soner Aci were also present at the hearing with their respective lawyers.

"I CALLED THE POLICE AND THE AMBULANCE"

Making his defense at the hearing, the defendant stated, "On the day of the incident, I was driving from Çorlu towards Hadımköy. Due to the wind, the vehicle under my control swerved to the right. I could not regain control. When I noticed the vehicle in the emergency lane, I tried to steer to the left, but I could not prevent the accident. When I realized I had hit the person, I got out of the vehicle and called the police and the ambulance. I am very sorry for the incident."

"HE ENTERED THE EMERGENCY LANE AND CAUSED MY SON'S DEATH"

Stating that he was in the emergency lane with his son during the accident, Soner Aci said, "The defendant entered the emergency lane despite seeing that we were there, and caused my son's death. I am filing a complaint."

In the hearing, the Public Prosecutor, who announced his opinion on the merits, stated that on the day of the incident, while the defendant was driving the truck under his control and reached the Silivri area, he hit the vehicle stopped in the emergency lane due to a breakdown and the victim, causing his death.

In the announced opinion, it was noted that the defendant drove the vehicle in violation of his duty of care and attention, and caused the death while being primarily at fault.

SENTENCED TO 2 YEARS AND 6 MONTHS IN PRISON AND ORDERED RELEASED

When asked for his final words at the hearing, the defendant requested his acquittal and release from the court.

Announcing its verdict, the court sentenced the defendant Sait İ. to 2 years and 6 months in prison for the crime of 'causing death by negligence' and decided to release him, taking into account the time he had spent in detention.

Taking into account the circumstances of the incident and the fault status, the court also decided to revoke the defendant's Class C driver's license for a period of 9 months.
