The 6th hearing was held regarding the Furkan Apartment building in Gaziantep, which collapsed during the earthquake disaster and caused the deaths of 51 people.

The prosecution, announcing its opinion, requested the maximum sentence for 3 defendants and requested the acquittal of 1 defendant. While the hearing was adjourned to July 19, Ersan Şen, the lawyer for the fugitive defendants who requested a guarantee against arrest and the lifting of the red notice, was met with intense reaction during the hearing.

One of the citizens who reacted to Şen said, "Do you need the money?"

The Furkan Apartment building, located on Mustafa Kökmen Boulevard in the Nizip district of Gaziantep, also collapsed in the disaster of the century centered in Kahramanmaraş. While 51 people who were trapped under the rubble of the collapsed building lost their lives, many others were injured. The sixth hearing regarding the Furkan Apartment, which became a grave for 51 people, was held at the Nizip High Criminal Court. The hearing was attended by non-detained defendants F.Ö. and E.Ö., defense attorneys, relatives of the deceased, and lawyers for the plaintiffs.

RE-ARREST OF NON-DETAINED DEFENDANTS REQUESTED

During the hearing, lawyers objecting to the report from Karadeniz Technical University stated that the non-detained defendants were negligent in the collapse of the building and requested a new expert report. For this reason, the lawyers requested the re-arrest of the non-detained defendants.

ACQUITTAL REQUESTED FOR 1 DEFENDANT

During the hearing, the prosecution announced its opinion. In the prosecution's opinion, the maximum sentence was requested for non-detained defendants F.Ö., E.Ö., and Y.Ş.Y. for the crime of "causing death by conscious negligence," while an acquittal was requested for N.A.

HEARING ADJOURNED TO JULY 19

After the defense statements, the court panel decided to continue the trial of the 4 defendants without detention, ruled to separate the files of the 2 fugitive defendants, and adjourned the hearing to July 19.

REACTION TO DEFENSE ATTORNEY ERSAN ŞEN

The request by Ersan Şen, the lawyer for fugitive defendants A.D.S. and his brother H.H.S., to lift the red notice and provide a guarantee against arrest for his clients caused tensions to rise during the hearing.

This request by lawyer Ersan Şen received intense reaction in the courtroom and in the courthouse garden after the hearing.

After the hearing, lawyer Şen, who wanted to leave the courthouse, was subjected to verbal attacks and reactions from the relatives of the deceased, and some people in the group attempted physical attacks. Şen left the courthouse under police escort.

FAMILIES REACTED IN TEARS

Gathering in front of the courthouse after the hearing, the relatives of the deceased shed tears and said, "We are seeking justice." Speaking on behalf of the families, a victimized citizen reacted by saying, "We didn't just lose our families. We lost our happiness, our humanity. We buried everything we had in the ground. We are seeking justice. While everything is clearly proven in the expert report, the arrests are being postponed. We are seeking justice. Please support us, be a voice for our voice. Is there anyone who hears us?"

Another victim said, "Our building did not collapse due to the earthquake; it collapsed because of the cutting of columns. Despite this, they were released." The families also reacted to Ersan Şen's request for a guarantee. One of the citizens who reacted to Şen said, "Do you need the money?"
