Intermittent rain in Istanbul has increased traffic congestion during rush hour. Vehicles are struggling to move in many parts of the city, with traffic coming to a standstill in some areas.
It was reported that congestion reached 89 percent during the evening hours. The need for drivers to proceed with extra caution due to the rain, combined with the increased vehicle load on main arteries, has exacerbated the traffic gridlock.
The citywide congestion was also captured from the air. The rainy weather, coinciding with the evening rush hour, has led to long queues of vehicles in Istanbul traffic.
