Criticism of NATO from the TKP! 'It is the enemy of our country!'
In a statement marking the 76th anniversary of NATO's founding, the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) described NATO as the world's largest terrorist organization, defended Turkey's independence, and demanded the country's withdrawal from the alliance.
The Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) issued a statement on the 76th anniversary of NATO's founding. In the statement, which recalled the purpose of the alliance's establishment, it was declared that the world's bloodiest and largest terrorist organization is "the enemy of our country's independence."
It was emphasized that it is not surprising that all establishment parties, both in government and opposition, declare their loyalty to NATO, while at the same time, the government continues to accuse public uprisings of being "the work of foreign powers." The statement noted that foreign powers wish to intervene in Turkey, and that NATO is at the forefront of these.
The statement, signed by the TKP Central Committee, declared, "For the sake of our country's independence, we must withdraw from NATO immediately, and not a single NATO unit or base should remain in Turkey."

The full text of the statement is as follows:
"The true friends of 'foreign powers' are the pro-NATO hypocrites. On its 76th anniversary, we do not forget the NATO within us.
NATO was founded at a time when humanity was rising up against the system of exploitation and when peoples in many countries around the world were advancing toward days filled with equality and freedom. Its purpose for establishment was very clear. The Soviet Union and socialism had to be crushed, and the peoples rising up everywhere in the world had to be suppressed with blood and force.
Today, 76 years after its founding, NATO has left behind massive war crimes, coups, and massacres, and continues to commit new ones. Those who included our country in NATO—the world's bloodiest and largest terrorist organization—by trading the blood of the children of the working class, all the governments that have sworn loyalty to NATO upon taking office since that day, and the parties that are candidates for power to continue this order, are the enemies of our country's independence.
All establishment parties, both in government and opposition, will repeat the fairy tale that Turkey is one of NATO's greatest actors and will continue their litany of loyalty to NATO today.
There is nothing surprising in this…
But on the other hand, government representatives who are unconditionally pro-NATO will simultaneously come out and attempt to accuse our people of taking to the streets against injustice and poverty as being "the work of foreign powers."
Yes, foreign powers want to intervene in Turkey.
Yes, they continue to attack without pause to make our country a part of this exploitative order every day.
And yes, at the head of those carrying out this intervention is, without a doubt, NATO, the apparatus of imperialism.
We declare clearly:
For the sake of our country's independence, we must withdraw from NATO immediately, and not a single NATO unit or base should remain in Turkey.
Anyone who continues their oaths of loyalty to NATO without interruption while simultaneously targeting our people's actions with the fabrication of "foreign powers" is a hypocrite.
Those who attempt to label our people's resistance as "the work of foreign powers" should look in the mirror and first account for their own collaborationism."
