Erdoğan said 'the fever of inflation has begun to drop'! But what about unemployment?

President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said in his remarks yesterday, "the fever of inflation has begun to drop." 

TÜİK, in its own statement, had announced that unemployment decreased by half a point.

According to the report by Mustafa Bildircin from BirGün; based on data for the January-November period of 2023, the number of people in the 15-19 age group waiting for work at İŞKUR reached 113 thousand 155. The number of citizens over the age of 65 registered with İŞKUR in the hope of finding a job was 5 thousand 405 as of November 2023. It was reported that 170 thousand 936 registered unemployed individuals in the 15-24 age group in Turkey have been waiting for a job for more than 1 year.

İŞKUR's statistics for the January-November period revealed the scale of unemployment in Turkey. The economic crisis, which has pushed millions of working citizens into the grip of poverty, has also created an army of millions of unemployed.

THERE ARE OVER 600 THOUSAND UNEMPLOYED UNIVERSITY GRADUATES

The distribution of unemployed individuals registered with İŞKUR by education level was also shared. According to the data, which reveals that even education level cannot prevent unemployment in Turkey, the number of unemployed university graduates registered with İŞKUR rose to 602 thousand 916 in November. It was reported that 1 million 778 thousand 238 of the registered unemployed consist of high school graduates, middle school graduates, or those who are illiterate.

1.35 MILLION UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT APPLICATIONS IN 10 MONTHS

İŞKUR's data also included the number of those who applied for unemployment benefits in the January-October period. Accordingly, a total of 1 million 352 thousand 631 citizens applied for unemployment benefits in the first 10 months of the year. Only 611 thousand 369 of the applicants were granted unemployment benefits. It was noted that 6 thousand 262 of those who applied for unemployment benefits were citizens over the age of 60. 

WHAT IS THE UNEMPLOYMENT TABLE LIKE?

According to the data for the January-November 2023 period, the number of unemployed individuals registered with İŞKUR in Turkey was stated as 2 million 381 thousand 155. The distribution of the total of 2.3 million unemployed citizens registered with İŞKUR by certain age groups points to the validity of the assessments that "everyone from 7 to 77 is looking for a job in Turkey." The distribution of people registered with İŞKUR in the hope of finding a job by age group was recorded as follows:

15-24: 595 thousand 165

25-34: 854 thousand 604

35-44: 591 thousand 988

45-54: 274 thousand 627

55-64: 59 thousand 366

65+: 5 thousand 405

DEEP UNEMPLOYMENT IN THE EARTHQUAKE ZONE

In the January-October period, the highest number of unemployment applications was made from Istanbul with 328 thousand 788 applications, while the five cities with the highest number of unemployment benefit applications after Istanbul were listed as follows:

Ankara: 90.328

Bursa: 65.759

Antalya: 47.174

Gaziantep: 43.211

Hatay: 30.418
