A video in which Prof. Justin McCarthy, a faculty member of the University of Louisville History Department, presents numerical data on the mass extermination of the Turkish and Muslim population in the region during and before the 1912-1913 Balkan Wars has become a trending topic again.
A video featuring renowned historian Prof. Justin McCarthy, who made striking statements about the past demographic structure of the Balkan geography and stated that the region was once entirely a Turkish homeland, has become a trending topic again.
Drawing attention to the period before the 1912-1913 Balkan Wars broke out, McCarthy noted that more than half of the Balkan population at that time consisted of Muslims. The American scholar recorded that in terms of geographical distribution, Albanians were in the absolute majority in the western Balkans, while Turks were in the absolute majority in the east.
"17% OF TURKS DIED DURING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF BULGARIA"
Touching upon the emergence process of the Bulgarian state, Prof. Justin McCarthy conveyed the heavy destruction the 1877-1878 war left on the Turkish population. McCarthy stated with clear data that at the end of this war, during which maps were redrawn, approximately 17% of the Turks living in the region lost their lives.
THE SITUATION WORSENED FURTHER DURING THE BALKAN WARS
Emphasizing that the situation reached a much more dire dimension when the calendars showed the years 1912-1913, McCarthy shared the dimensions of the population collapse experienced during the Balkan Wars.
The renowned historian stated that during this war period, 27% of the Turks in the region were either killed directly or lost their lives due to epidemics and starvation.
