Akın Gürlek speaks on the 12th Judicial Package

Answering questions from journalists after the Cabinet Meeting, Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek made evaluations on many issues, ranging from current work in the judiciary to the European Parliament rapporteur's statements about him.

Minister Gürlek also responded to a question regarding whether there is any new work on enforcement regulations.

Stating that at this stage, only some proposals regarding children pushed into crime are on the agenda, Gürlek expressed that evaluations on this matter have been submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

Gürlek said the following on the subject:

"We have some proposals regarding the enforcement of children's sentences. The report of the commission established on this matter is awaited."

"TERROR-FREE TURKEY" PROCESS AND JUDICIAL PACKAGE ARE CONDUCTED SEPARATELY

Minister of Justice Gürlek was also asked whether the 12th Judicial Package contains any regulations regarding the process publicly referred to as "Terror-Free Turkey."

Emphasizing that the two topics are handled independently of each other, Gürlek noted that work in the Parliament is ongoing.

Minister Gürlek used the following expressions:

"The work regarding the 'Terror-Free Turkey' process and the judicial package are being carried out independently of each other. The Parliament is conducting the 'Terror-Free Turkey' process. An intensive preparation process is continuing in the Parliament to finalize the 12th Judicial Package. These efforts are progressing independently. Very important work is being carried out to solve the different problems of our country."

RESPONSE TO THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT RAPPORTEUR

Minister Gürlek also responded to a question directed at him regarding the European Parliament rapporteur's assessments of him.

Stating that the report in question is advisory in nature and does not carry any binding force, Gürlek indicated that they continue their duties within the framework of the law.

In his statement, Gürlek made the following evaluations:

"We have done our duty, and we continue to do so. The ideological approach of that person is already different. Their connections with marginal organizations are also known. The prepared report is also an advisory decision."

"THE REPORT HAS NO BINDING FORCE"

Reiterating in his assessments regarding the report prepared by the European Parliament rapporteur that the report does not have a legally binding nature, Gürlek stated that the Ministry of Justice will continue to fulfill its duties within the framework of legislation.

In his statements after the Cabinet Meeting, Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek, who both shared the latest status regarding judicial reform efforts and responded to the European Parliament rapporteur's assessments, reported that the commission report regarding enforcement regulations for children is awaited, and that preparations on the 12th Judicial Package are continuing intensively in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
